Keeping an eye on results

A new Results-Based Financing (RBF) Tracker tool by Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) uses data from over 30 different funding agencies and over 60 projects around the world. It shows how RBF programmes for decentralized renewable energy access are distributed and presents their impact on a map.

One of the key challenges for results-based financing (RBF) in the energy sector lies in tracking progress and achievements of companies’ projects for further funding based on predefined results. In funding for projects, it is important to keep an eye on transparency and accountability to ensure resources are not wasted and directed accurately. Launched by the international organisation SEforALL with support from Green People’s Energy, the new Results-Based Financing Tracker lets funders and companies monitor and evaluate the progress of results.

The RBF Tracker collects data and information from projects, analyses and presents it in an interactive map visualization on the SEforALL website. It contains information and data on active and completed RBF programmes. The platform allows progress of programmes to be monitored in real time, providing key insights into project performance. Users can also search for information on specific categories, filter data and generate RBF maps by locations.

With a clear insight into the progress and performance of projects, the RBF Tracker helps stakeholders monitor global progress. They can coordinate and collaborate and also access RBF literature, reports, and knowledge products created by donors and implementing agencies. As the concept of RBF grows in importance, the RBF Tracker will become an indispensable tool, also for donors to use their financial resources more strategically and effectively to make informed decisions.

Development of the RBF Tracker was led by SEforALL’s Leadership Group for Results-Based Financing (RBF). The community consists of well-known financing organizations and RBF implementing organisations with a clear set of goals: Actively engaging stakeholders, promoting knowledge exchange and best practices, and addressing common challenges with a unified effort. The group focuses on better coordination between RBF programmers and activating even stronger engagement within the sector and receives support from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and its Green People’s Energy programme.
