Ethiopian teachers participate in the Green TVET School training
Since September, 9 teachers from different vocational schools in Ethiopia are participating in an extensive online-training course on the prospects and best practices for the integration of renewable energy content in the technical-vocational education and training (TVET).
During the training, the German dual TVET system (“Duale Berufsausbildung”) is presented and discussed as a prime example that could be replicated. However, the trainees will also reflect on other varieties of dual education, and how a practically oriented, modern renewable energy training can be intertwined with the market needs and the industries of their home countries. In addition, the training provides a valuable opportunity to network and further exchange with other participants from various countries in the future.
GBE Ethiopia not only finances the participation of the 9 Ethiopian teachers, but also accompanies and supports the trainees with an advisor of its team.
“I find the training very good, useful and applicable. I learnt a lot about Germany’s TVET system, as well as about the trainers’ and participants’ experiences in this field. I am very happy to be a part of the training and I hope to transfer and apply its content in my country.” says Kalkidan Asmamaw from the Entoto Polytechnic College in Addis Ababa.
“The training delivery is very elaborated, with a lot of participatory elements and group interactions, but it also requires working on assignments in-between the training units” explains Habtamu Abebe, Advisor for TVET of GBE Ethiopia. “The training comes at the right time, given Ethiopia’s high potential for solar energy production and the federal TVET agency’s plan to promote renewable energy education” he adds.
This online training is conducted by the Renewable Academy (RENAC) in Berlin and “TVET Hamburg”, the latter being an initiative of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, the Hamburg Institute for Vocational Education and Training and the GFA Consulting Group.
