Green People’s Energy supports three more partnerships
Wind power in Uganda, solar systems in Uganda and Namibia: the three new partnerships of Green People’s Energy are all about knowledge transfer, sustainable energy supply and cooperation between German and African partners.
Wind power made easier: With an open-source wind turbine, the Internationale Ländliche Entwicklungsdienst (International Rural Development Service)from Bad Honnef and the Wekembe Micro Credit Scheme from Kampala want to build a wind turbine to generate electricity and pump water in Uganda. The partnership consists of supporting the African partners with technical knowledge from Germany so that local metalworking companies can build the wind turbine. The latter was developed jointly by the Universities of Bremen and Makarere, using locally available materials. The entire project will be digitally documented – this should facilitate the realisation of follow-up projects in Africa.
Digital education and training as a public education offer: Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences and Uganda Christian University want to establish off-grid solar systems for education and training purposes on an island in Lake Victoria in Uganda. So far, only private companies have offered digital training, but with the Uganda Christian University, a public institution is now to create a corresponding offer. The content is about how remote regions can use solar energy and seize opportunities for sustainable development. In addition, the partnership will develop a solar system that will find answers to important questions such as ownership, tariff and financing models as well as the development of adequate teaching and learning modules.
In a second project, Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences is developing customised training measures for mini-grid systems in two rural areas with the Namibia Energy Institute. In a train-the-trainer approach, they want to impart knowledge on how solar mini-grid systems can be operated economically and thus promote entrepreneurship in rural Namibia.
