Universities training trainers in use of solar pumps

Following handover of solar irrigation technology in Ghana, training has now started for trainers. The aim is to ensure broad understanding and use of solar-powered water pumps in the country’s agricultural sector.

In Ghana, the Green People’s Energy (GBE) initiative, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, recently handed over solar irrigation systems for immediate use to Ho’s Technical University, the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani and the University of Development Studies in Tamale.

The universities use the installations, funded by the German Government, to train solar professionals. They are in urgent need in Ghana.

As a new video also shows, technicians, installers, agricultural extension staff and loan officers are now learning the nuts and bolts of the systems. After their training, they can advise and support farmers in using solar irrigation. With solar pump technology, the agricultural workers can water fields more cost-effectively and reliably.
