Formation institutes for experts in solar irrigation

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani, the Technical University of Ho and the University for Development Studies in Tamale are building solar-powered irrigation systems with the support of GBE Ghana.

In the coming months, 150 technicians, installers, agricultural and financial advisors will get to know and understand the technology from the installed systems. The universities also use the solar-powered irrigation systems to irrigate their experimental agricultural fields.

“The training combines theoretical and practical aspects that enable us to better meet farmers’ needs,” says Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga , Vice-Chancellor of the Technical University of Ho. “They will get professional advice from us, on how to run their irrigation systems on solar energy. The project therefore benefits the whole community.”
